True Blood King Russell Biography
Russell Edgington—born under the name of Korun—is the former vampire king of Mississippi. He is 2,800 years old. Eric Northman has stated that Edgington may be the oldest and strongest vampire in the world, as well as the craziest.
Russell appears to be charming and polite, but that façade can be easily broken, revealing him to be manipulative and almost Machiavellian. He occasionally speaks in an ancient Celt language, denoting his origins. He also cursed to Sookie in German. He believes humans have squandered the Earth and believes in protecting the environment of vampires.
After the death of his consort and progeny, Talbot, Russell's sanity ebbs. He speaks to an urn containing Talbot's remains. His actions seem much more erratic than before, and he goes as far as interrupting a newscast, after brutally killing the newscaster. He is entirely focused upon revenge on the Authority, the American Vampire League, and more importantly, those who have taken Talbot away from him.
Russell Edgington was an ancient Celt from the Carpathian Mountains and a Pagan Druid. He was made a vampire around the year 750 BC. 700 years ago, he fled to Greece and met Talbot, a Greek prince whom he then took as his lover.
He has met Eric Northman face to face before Eric was a vampire, during the slaughter of his human family at the hands of Russell's werewolves. Eric could not see his face because Russell was wearing a cloak. ("Trouble")
According to Eric's report to the Authority, Russell's werewolves are likely responsible for the reports from the Turks of "jackals" at the Fall of Constantinople and the spread of disease amongst the Aztec Empire by war dogs of the Conquistadors in the 16th century.
